Tournament Description
WA State’s largest outdoor tournament in a beautiful park setting, with perfect PNW summer weather and the company of friends. A favorite of local, regional and traveling players! USA Pickleball sanctioned, double-elimination format. Mens/Womens/Mixed 12+,50+,60+ skill events with cash prize Opens* and Senior Opens*. *Open events require 4.5 UTPR or higher rating to register. Players may register for maximum of 1 gendered and 1 mixed event. Annual fundraiser for the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association.

Set in a beautiful city park along the shores of the Puget Sound in Shoreline, Washington, this 5-day tournament features 18 courts, cash prizes for OPEN divisions and competitive skill divisions ranging from 3.0 – 4.5 for ages 12+,50+,60+.
The “Metro” or “Classic” (you can choose what to call it), celebrates our dedicated local pickleball community and benefits the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association (SMPA), welcoming first-time participants, tournament veterans and our top local players and pros from across the west coast.

There are local grocery stores, restaurants and fast food options within 1 mile of the tournament venue.
We recommend bringing your own food and snacks.
No Alcohol is allowed as this is a City Park.
Lodging / Accommodations
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
We’re looking for host families in the Seattle area to provide lodging for traveling pro players and certified referees attending the Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic. Being a host family involves providing lodging for 1 or more players for up to 6 days and arrange their ride upon arrival and departure to/from Seatac airport. (Players are responsible for rides and food for the duration of their stay.)

TOURNAMENT APPAREL
Apparel for the Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic will be available for players and fans to purchase prior to the event. Apparel will be available in several shirt options and colors. Shirts are printed at time of purchase and shipped directly to your home. Players who are registered and paid by June 1st will receive a special discount code via email. Apparel purchased by July 1st is guaranteed to arrive by the day of the tournament.
DEADLINES: REGISTRATION / PAYMENT / PARTNER / REFUND
PAYMENT DEADLINE
May 1st – All persons registered for 3.0-4.5 SKILL EVENTS in the Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic need to have their registration and event fees paid by May 1st, 2022. (This includes any partners registered as well) Any individual players or teams who are not completely paid will be moved to the waitlist after May 1st.
PARTNER DEADLINE
June 1st - All persons registered for 3.0-4.5 SKILL EVENTS in the Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic need to have their partner REGISTERED AND FULLY PAID by June 1st, 2022. Any team that is not complete and paid by June 1st will be moved to the waitlist.
OPEN EVENT DEADLINES
July 1st - All Open event teams need to be complete and fully paid by July 1st, 2022. Open events are limited to 20 teams, any Open event teams not complete and paid will be moved to the waitlist after July 1st, 2022.
REFUND DEADLINE
July 1st - Deadline to receive a refund for ANY EVENT is July 1st, 2022. No refunds will be given after July 1st, unless your event is combined with another age/skill group or cancelled. In this case, the tournament director will contact you to notify of changes and you will have the opportunity to request a refund or stay in your division.
PARTNER CHANGES / INJURIES
If a player needs to change their partner due to injury or unexpected circumstances, they can do so up to 7 days prior to the start of the tournament. Players needing to change partners need to contact the tournament director to do so.
WAITLISTS
Waitlisted teams that are complete and fully paid will be added to the active roster once space becomes available or if a division is expanded.
OPEN DIVISION PLAY AND PAYOUT POLICY
Prizes will be only be awarded and distributed equally amongst Open Divisions, with prizes offered for 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th place, so long at the division has a minimum of 8 teams. If the division has less than 8 teams, prizes will be prorated as follows:
8 or more teams in an Open division – Double elimination format. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place at 100%.
6-7 teams in an Open division – Double elimination or round robin format (tournament director discretion). Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at 75%.
4 – 5 teams in an Open division - Open division will be either of the following formats (decided by tournament director).
Play in a Round Robin Format within their division, with prizes awarded at 60%.
Combine with the other Open division age group. (ie. Combine 50+ and 19+) Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams at 100%, so long as the combined divisions have at least 8 teams.
Less than 4 teams – Open division will be combined with the other Open division age group. (ie. Combine 50+ and 19+).
If the combined divisions have at least 8 teams, the format will be double elimination with prizes awarded to the top 3 teams at 100%.
If the combined division is only 6-7 total teams, prizes will be prorated to 75% with format decided by tournament director.
If the combined division is only 4-5 total teams, prizes will be prorated to 60% with round robin format.
Teams in any Open division with less than 4 teams will have the option to withdraw for a full refund.
TAX IMPLICATIONS OF CASH PRIZES
There are tax implications for prize money of $600 or more in which the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association is required to file the appropriate tax forms with the IRS. To ensure SMPA can meet these potential tax obligations in a timely manner all Open medalists will be required to provide a signed IRS W-9 form before any payouts are made. Blank forms will be available on-site. You can also use the link provided to print and fill out the form and bring it with you.
All medalists will need to provide the W9 as it's possible to go over the $600 threshold by winning multiple events (we're rooting for you). For those players exceeding the threshold a 1099-MISC will be issued for the current tax year next tax season.

TOURNAMENT CODE OF CONDUCT
All players, spectators and volunteers of the Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic are expected to adhere to the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association (SMPA) Code of Conduct.
Any person not following the code of conduct may be asked to leave by the Tournament Director, Committee or SMPA Board Member.
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel any or all of your events until 11:59pm, July 1, 2022, and receive a full refund.
No refunds after that time.
If you have requested a partner and one cannot be found, you will also receive a full refund
If any of the events are cancelled due to weather, a maximum 50% refund will be available.

Double elimination with MainDraw – 2 out of 3 games to 11 win by 2
Back draw – 1 game to 15 win by 2.
The Tournament Director reserves the right to change format and/or combine events based on participation and time constraints.
